Club Update: 5th July 2021

Sorry it has been necessary to close the club on a Tuesday as well as a Monday for at least for the next few weeks. Monday is due to the reduced use by Members. Tuesday is due to a staff resource issue. We are sorry for any inconvenience this causes. We will keep you updated.

Saturday Entertainment Update 18.06.21                      Please note that there will be no Entertainment on a Saturday evening until the further lockdown arrangements come in to place, hopefully after 19 July 2021.

The exception is Sat 3rd July at 8.00, when Keith Hayman is performing. This will be strictly by booking only.                                                                          Sorry for any inconvenience caused.                              We are sure you appreciate the difficult challenges the extension to Covid restrictions has caused us all.

Stop Press 20.06.21:  All tables in the main bar for Keith Hayman are now booked. There are still some available in the back bar.

SCC Update 05.05.21 revised

We hope you are keeping well and are looking forward to visiting us again at Shoreham Conservative Club, we are planning to reopen from Monday 17th May. It has been a long time since we closed since the start of the 2nd lockdown on 4th November last year.

We appreciate that it has been a very difficult year for everyone and Covid will have touched us all directly in one way or another.

It will be good to return to some sort of normality, whilst appreciating the anxieties that people may have in doing so.

The Committee and Bar Team look forward to welcoming you back inside the club.

The planned opening hours from 17th May will be as follows:

• Mon, Tues and Weds 11.00-14.00 and 18.00-23.00

• Thurs 11.00-14.30 and 18.00-23.00

• Fri and Sat 11.00-23.00.

• Sun 12.00-18.00

These sessions will be reviewed over the next month or so are subject to change, as we hopefully return to some normality.

Food will be available again on Weds, Thurs, Fri, Sat and Sun lunchtime and Weds, Thurs and Fri evening.

When we reopen the restrictions that were in place prior to the extended closure will still apply, these being:

• Everyone will need to swipe the QR code on the NHS app or sign the book on entry to the club. This must be done by each individual, as this is a requirement of the law and can be subject to a financial penalty being incurred.

• A maximum of 6 people per table (table service only) in the meantime, it is hoped that this will be reviewed from 21 June.

• Face masks must be worn on entry and when moving around inside the club including visiting the toilet, these can be removed when you are seated the table.

• You are permitted to bring one guest to the club in the immediate future (a maximum of three times in a month).

• We aim to keep you safe, as best as we possibly can, although it must be emphasised that it is the responsibility of us all to adhere to the rules and to protect the wellbeing of everyone.

A number of members have paid their membership for 2021 and others have said that they are awaiting the reopening to do this. We thank you all for support in doing this.

If possible, it would be appreciated if you could do this on the Monday or Tuesday sessions please over the first few weeks of reopening, if you have not done so.

Please complete the attached form and bring it with your blue membership booklet and the appropriate payment to the bar.

This £ 30 for a Senior member and £ 40 for a standard member for the remainder of 2021. You are also required please to pay a minimum payment of £ 3 for the Conservative Association Fee.

You can also elect to pay a voluntary affiliation fee of £ 3 for 2021, which will permit you into other Conservative Clubs in the UK.

Unfortunately like many other businesses, the club has lost out on considerable income, whilst still having numerous outgoings. Thankfully there has been some Government support to assist, although it doesn’t fully replace the lost revenue during these periods of closure. It is therefore necessary to charge the full increased annual membership, to ensure the continued success and viability of the club.

We hope you feel that this still offers value for money.

We are pleased to announce that the price of our drinks are to be frozen for the immediate future.

If you know of anyone else that wishes to be added to the e-mail circulation list, please ask them to send an e-mail to shorehamconservativeclub@yahoo.com with their name and membership number.

We do know e-mail addresses are generally provided on the renewal form, although unfortunately the details are sometimes hard to decipher and can be misread.

Other weekly events for your diary:

Quiz Night returns from Weds 19th May from 20.15 every Wednesday.

Bingo returns every Thursday lunchtime from 20th May at 13.00

Meat Raffle Draw will recommence every Friday at 21.30 from 21st May.

Tickets will be available from behind the bar throughout the week.

Play Your Cards Right will return on a Sunday at 14.30 and 16.00 provisionally from August

Planned Future Entertainment on a Saturday evening:

It is hoped that the entertainment will recommence from Sat 26th June 2021 on a regular basis, as hopefully social distancing measures are to be further relaxed from 21st June, although this is tentative at this stage.

We look forward to getting back to some sort of normality, in the meantime keep safe.                                                              Best wishes SCC Committee.

 SCC Update 01.03.21.

We hope you are all keeping well and are looking forward to getting back to some normality. Following the Road Map announcement by Boris, all being well we should be able to reopen with restrictions, no earlier than 17th May. This is subject to the success of the four measures that are being put in place by the Government. We will be communicating our plans including the payment of membership further over the next month. In the meantime take care and stay safe. We look forward to welcoming you back in due course bw SCC Committee.

Please note that the planned trip to Bideford in March has been rearranged for 4th – 8th October. There may be a couple of places available. Further details to follow soon.

SCC Christmas Update 24.12.20

Following the news yesterday, we are now in Tier 4. This means that unfortunately there is no option to open the club at this time.

We do appreciate the disappointment and frustration that this causes everyone, particularly those who are living alone and those who may be feeling especially lonely at this time of year. Our thoughts are with you all.

We will be back at some point and will have a belated celebration then.

In the meantime Merry Christmas and Best wishes for 2021.

Keep safe and well.

Best wishes

SCC Committee

SCC Update 17.12.20.

The Committee would like to thank you for your support in what has been an extremely difficult year and one we probably all want to end.

This is to advise you following the Government Covid Tiers review today, this area remains at tier 2. It is therefore with regret that the decision has been taken to keep the club closed in the interim and this will be reviewed again early January.

It is worrying to see the increasing levels of the virus, especially after these were relatively low in this area a few weeks ago. The situation is being reviewed by the Government on a fortnightly basis and we will keep you updated on plans to reopen.

Hopefully we will be able to get back to some normality during 2021, as the vaccine is rolled out. It will however, remain a challenge over the next few months, as the situation will certainly not change overnight. It will be great when we can get back to regular entertainment and social events, which all miss and enjoy, we will be more than ready for a party.

Some members have asked about membership renewal and how they can pay this. An electronic copy of the renewal form is attached in the meantime, hard copies will also be available at the club once it reopens.

It is hoped that we will get the club open again as soon as practicably possible, when we are operationally and logistically able to do so.

You are welcome to post your renewal application, along with your blue membership card (not door swipe card) and a cheque payable to Shoreham Conservative Club in an envelope and post it to us at 102-110 High Street, Shoreham by Sea, BN43 5DB.

We appreciate the frustration caused with the club being closed for a couple of periods, during this past challenging year. Unfortunately like many other businesses, the club has lost out on considerable income, whilst still having outgoings. Thankfully there has been some Government support to assist, although it doesn’t fully replace the lost revenue during these periods of closure. It is therefore necessary to charge the full annual membership, at an increased rate, to ensure the continued success of the club. We hope you agree that this still offers value for money.

If you wish to be included on the e-mail circulation list, please send an e-mail to shorehamconservativeclub@yahoo.com with your name and membership number. I know this is stated on the renewal form, although unfortunately the details are sometimes hard to decipher and can be misread.

In the meantime, the Committee and the Bar Team wish you a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous and Happy 2021, let’s hope we see the back of Covid 19 ASAP.

Sorry we cannot celebrate together like normal times.

Thanks once again for your support and stay safe.

Best wishes

Covid 19 Update – 28.11.20

Following the news on Thursday that West Sussex is moving to the Tier 2 level on the Covid 19 scale, after the month long National lockdown finishes on 2nd December 2020. It is considered not commercially, logistically or operationally viable to reopen the club in the immediate future.                                                                                                          We are sure you all feel the frustration that this decision has on us all and with similar hospitality businesses across the country, as well as locally.                                                        The decision on tier levels is due to be reviewed every two weeks, the next one is on 16th December.                                    We will keep you up to date on the latest.                                      It is certainly not the Festive plans that we had in mind.        In the meantime please keep safe and well.                                  Best Wishes SCC Committee

You can scan the QR code on the poster in the lobby as part of the NHS Track and Trace app. You are still required to sign in yourself and a guest on entry. The use of the app is an additional choice.

Maximum of 6 people per table.                                                                              Please adhere to the Social Distancing requirements and remain seated at your table.                                                                                                                       You are not allowed to dance on music nights, even at or near your table.                                                                                                                                  Please note bad behaviour and the use of foul and abusive language will not be tolerated in any circumstances in the club.

Goodbye David

Yesterday (23 August 2019) we paid our respects to our Treasurer David Fickweiler.                                                  It was a lovely service and tributes were made to the good work he had done as Treasurer for the club over the years.                                                                                                                                                                                                    He will be greatly missed by all.
